A field group bundles custom fields together and attaches them to a content type - posts, products or a custom post type. Groups keep the editor organized: instead of one flat list of dozens of fields, each group appears as its own panel in the editor.
Creating a field group
- Go to Custom Fields → Field groups Click Add and give the group a name (e.g. "Book details")
- Add the fields that belong to the group - any type from Text to Gallery or Relationship
- Choose which content type(s) the group applies to
- Save
How groups appear in the editor
When editing a post/product that matches the group's content type, the group shows up as a separate section with all its fields. Editors only see groups relevant to what they are writing.
Displaying values in themes
Field values are stored per post and can be rendered in themes through template variables or components, keyed by the field slug. See the individual field type docs for output details.
